Production Engineer
Location: Alrode and Tedderfield
Type of employment: Permanent
Key Responsibility Areas:
TOOLING, JIGS, AND FIXTURES
- Design, improve, and maintain production tooling, jigs, and fixtures, including drawings to company CAD and drawing standards.
- Administer tooling configuration control.
- Support tooling 5S, identification, and calibration/verification programmed on the floor.
PROCESS OPTIMISATION
- Define, document, and improve build process sequences, cycle times, and line balance in support of takt-based bay-oriented production.
- Lead time-and-motion, ergonomics, and workstation design improvements.
- Plan and implement cell and plant layout changes, material presentation, and point-of-use tooling.
WORK INSTRUCTIONS AND BUILD QUALITY
- Develop, review, and continuously improve work instructions in collaboration with Quality and Engineering, ensuring clarity, correct sequencing, and alignment with approved design data.
- Analyse snag, rework, and non-conformance trends and engineer out the root causes, supporting the war on rework campaign.
- Support production problem-solving (RCA, 5-Why, A3) as the engineering resource on cross functional teams.
PRODUCIBILITY AND ENGINEERING INTERFACE
- Provide structured producibility feedback to Engineering as a formal input to design reviews.
- Propose design-affecting improvements through the engineering change process.
- Participate in the monthly Production Engineering technical review and maintain tooling/drawing standards set by the Engineering technical authority.
AUTHORITY BOUNDARY
- The Production Engineer may design and change tooling, processes, layouts, and work instructions within approved design data. The role may not change design data, disposition non-conformances affecting design intent, or approve deviations or concessions. These authorities rest exclusively with Engineering.
Essential Requirements:
- National Diploma or BEng/BTech in Mechanical, Industrial, Aeronautical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or tooling role, ideally in aerospace, automotive or precision fabrication.
- Proven CAD competence (SolidWorks preferred) including tooling and fixture design.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools, Six Sigma Green Belt, or lean certification advantageous.
ATTRIBUTES
- Floor-based by preference – comfortable spending the working day in the factory, not behind a desk.
- Rigorous about documentation, configuration control, and the design/production authority boundary.
- Practical problem-solver who works through and with artisans, team leaders, and managers rather than around them.
- Able to hold engineering standards under production pressure.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- Reduction in rework and snag rates.
- Tooling change turnaround times and tooling documentation compliance.
- Improved first-pass yield and reduced cycle times.
- Reduction in Engineering interruptions caused by production-related issues.

Production Assistant (Parts Manufacturing)
Location: Alrode
Type of employment: Permanent
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Clean, deburr, and prepare structural components to meet required quality and production standards.
- Apply protective coverings to aluminium sheets and structural components to prevent damage during handling, storage, and production.
- Perform flat pattern inspections to verify component accuracy and compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Safely load and offload materials and components into designated containers, ensuring correct handling and storage procedures are followed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment in accordance with the company’s 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Safely use industrial steel files and other approved hand tools to clean, deburr, and finish components.
- Comply with all company health, safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements:
- Matric.
- Proficient in English (spoken, written, and reading).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and take initiative when required.
- Ability to use industrial files safely and competently.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
- Experience working with sheet metal or structural parts.
- Knowledge of structural parts manufacturing processes.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing production-related tasks.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Good housekeeping habits and a strong commitment to safety.
- Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently when required.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
