2021 arrived in a flash and with it a glimpse of what the year ahead holds for Sling. As always, the end of the year was our busiest time with us sending out kits and factory builds to all corners of the globe.
The real excitement though was test flying our Prototype Sling 4 High Wing on the very last day of the year! With our company Christmas party canceled due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, we decided to get the whole team together at Tedderfield Airpark to be a part of this historic event and a small year-end celebration! True to form, the Sling 4 High Wing did not disappoint. Mike and James took to the air after a couple of high-speed taxis and took turns flying circuits high above the airfield. Below you will find a short video to put you in the cockpit with Mike and James on the first flight.
The year ahead promises to be full of adventure and excitement, and although we have decided to cancel our planned transatlantic flight to SUN n’ FUN in Florida this April thanks to Covid, we are confident that by the time AirVenture Oshkosh arrives, the USA and hopefully the rest of the world will be well on their way to herd immunity through vaccinations. For now, though, we continue to conduct flight testing on the Sling 4 High Wing and focus on improving quality throughout the company.

After reaching Cape Town in Part 2, Josh Flowers and Chelsea Smith of Aviation101, along with Chris Lammert and Keelyn Costello, reunite with friends and fly their Sling aircraft north from Stellenbosch through the Tankwa Karoo, before crossing into Namibia and exploring the spectacular Fish River Canyon. From formation flying and the Tanqua Kuru Bicycle Race to fireside celebrations and an off-airport landing in the desert, the journey becomes less about following a plan and more about embracing whatever comes next—because sometimes the most memorable part of flying happens after the engine shuts down.
